In their second game in as many days, the Spruce Grove Saints fell 5-2 to the West Kelowna Warriors on Friday night. Despite a strong effort in the first and third frame, the Saints were unable to recover after a three-goal second period by the Warriors.
The Saints took the early lead when Owen Leckelt opened the scoring in the first period. Leckelt capitalized on a rebound to put the Saints up 1-0. However, the Warriors answered in the second period, with former Saint Carter Oakenfold converting a penalty shot to even the score at 1-1. Jack Farrell then gave the Warriors a 2-1 lead, followed by Elias Callgren, whose goal in the closing minutes of the second period extended their advantage to 3-1.
In the third period, Carson Lloyd brought the Saints back within one, scoring early to make it 3-2 and giving the team a glimmer of hope. Despite numerous chances to tie the game, the Saints were unable to find the back of the net. The Warriors sealed the win with two empty-net goals to summarize the game at 5-2.
The Saints will return to home ice next weekend for the first time in 2025. They’ll host the Sherwood Park Crusaders on Friday night and the Vernon Vipers on Saturday night. Both games are slated to start at 7:00 p.m.
