The Spruce Grove Saints went 6/6 on the penalty-kill and halted their three-game losing streak in a Wednesday-night matchup against the Blackfalds Bulldogs, securing a 6-4 win on home ice.
The Bulldogs struck first, with Luke Dahlen opening the scoring halfway through the first period. Keifer Miller answered quickly for the Saints, evening the score at 1-1. Dahlen wasn’t finished, restoring Blackfalds’ lead with his second goal of the night. But Max Seguin responded late in the period, tying the game 2-2 headed into the intermission.
The Saints dominated the middle frame, outshooting the Bulldogs and capitalizing on their opportunities. Austin Peters netted a power-play goal to give the Saints their first lead of the game, and Alexy Lachaine extended it to 4-2 shortly after. The Bulldogs clawed back with less than three minutes remaining in the period, setting the stage for a tense 4-3 score heading into the third.
The Bulldogs came out firing in the final frame, outshooting the Saints 17-6. Matthew Ronn’s early goal tied the game at 4-4, but the Saints found a way to respond. Ethan Kronewitt’s deflection midway through the period restored Spruce Grove’s lead, and Stephen Kirkpatrick’s empty-netter sealed the 6-4 victory.
