The Spruce Grove Saints secured a massive 5-3 victory over the West Kelowna Warriors in a crucial matchup that shakes up the Interior East division standings. With the win, the Saints snap their skid and leapfrog the Okotoks Oilers into the 8th place.
Colin Doherty wasted no time getting the Saints on the board, firing a shot top shelf early in the first period. However, Tyler Grahme responded for the Warriors, knotting the game at 1-1. Late in the frame, Ethan Kronewitt capitalized on a penalty shot opportunity, restoring the Saints’ lead at 2-1. West Kelowna responded before the period expired, sending the game into intermission tied at two.
The second period saw only one goal, but it was a pivotal one – Josh Polak buried a short-handed tally to give Spruce Grove a 3-2 advantage heading into the final frame.
West Kelowna’s Simon Wang found the equalizer in the third, setting up a intense finish. But the Saints rose to the occasion, with Matheson Mason netting the go-ahead goal and the empty-netter to seal the 5-3 victory.
With the win, the Saints strengthen their playoff push, reclaiming momentum at a key point in the season.
