Despite many offensive opportunities, the Spruce Grove Saints came up short against the Blackfalds Bulldogs, falling 4-2 at home. However, with both the Okotoks Oilers and West Kelowna Warriors losing tonight, the Saints’ playoff hopes remain alive.
Frederic Deschenes opened the scoring in the first period, giving the Saints an early 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs quickly responded just two minutes later, tying the game at 1-1.
Bodee Weiss stood tall in the second period, turning aside multiple high-danger chances to keep the game even heading into the final frame.
Just under halfway through the third period, Josh Polak broke the deadlock to put the Saints ahead 2-1. However, the Bulldogs stormed back with two quick goals to take a 3-2 lead. With the Saints pressing for the equalizer late, Blackfalds sealed the win with an empty-net goal.
The Saints will look to bounce back next weekend during their BC road trip as they continue to fight for a playoff spot.
