GAME RECAP: Saints Comeback Bid Falls Short in Loss To Penticton

PHOTO: Cherie Morgan

The Spruce Grove Saints faced a tough test on the road against the Penticton Vees, ultimately falling 5-2.

With an offensive outburst, the Vees scored three goals in the first period to take a commanding 3-0 lead into the intermission. The Saints struggled to find their rhythm in the opening frame, and the deficit proved difficult to overcome.

However, Spruce Grove showed resilience in the second period. Frederic Deschenes got the Saints on the board with a lone goal in the frame, cutting the Vees’ lead to 3-1 heading into the final period.

The Saints mounted a comeback effort in the third, with Matheson Mason scoring less than five minutes left in the game to bring Spruce Grove within one goal at 3-2. The momentum was shifting in their favor. However, the Saints’ attempt to even the score was derailed after an unsuccessful 6-on-5 advantage. With the net empty, the Vees capitalized, scoring two empty-net goals in quick succession to seal the victory at 5-2.

Despite a strong effort in the latter half of the game, the Saints couldn’t overcome the early deficit, as the Vees held firm to maintain their lead and secure the win.
