Colin Doherty scored the lone goal to prevent the shutout as the Spruce Grove Saints fell 8-1 to the Okotoks Oilers.
With three goals in the first period, four in the second, and one in the final frame, the Oilers controlled the game from the get-go, capitalizing on their chances and building a commanding lead. The Saints fought to break through offensively but were unable to until the final frame.
Colin Doherty provided the lone bright spot for Spruce Grove, scoring early in the third period to prevent the shutout. .
At this point in the season, each game is crucial for postseason positioning. Spruce Grove will attempt to climb back into a playoff spot with the upcoming home games this month. The Saints will look to regroup and bounce back against the Sherwood Park Crusaders next Friday at Grant Fuhr Arena.
