The Spruce Grove Saints’ three-game win streak came to an end Friday night as they fell 5-4 to the Okotoks Oilers in a back-and-forth matchup.

The Saints wasted no time getting on the scoreboard, with Max Seguin striking just eight seconds into the game. However, the Oilers regrouped quickly, netting two first-period goals to take a 2-1 lead into the intermission.

In the middle frame, James Richards buried his fourth goal to tie the game at 2-2. The Oilers responded minutes later through Ryan Boyce, but Ryan Johnstone delivered a well-placed shot late in the period to send the teams to the final period knotted at 3-3.

The intensity ramped up in the third as Brock Souch put the Oilers back in front 4-3, but Austin Peters kept the Saints alive, finding the back of the net to tie the game at four. With the minutes ticking down, Spencer Rheaume played the hero for Okotoks, scoring the game-winner and sealing a 5-4 victory.
