GAME RECAP: Saints Fall In Entertaining Affair Against Bandits

PHOTO: James Maclennan

With a 9-6 loss to the Brooks Bandits, the Spruce Grove Saints’ six-game win-streak has been snapped. In what was a physical and high-scoring affair, both teams had their offensive chances. However, the Bandits were able to capitalize more on their opportunities.

The first period saw Jack Good opening the scoring with a power play goal to put the Bandits up 1-0. Brodie Hankel responded with a goal of his own to tie the game at one headed into the middle frame.

The second period saw the Saints and the Bandits registering three goals each. Josh Polak, Brett Barnes and Chris Battaini scored the opening three to give the Saints a 4-1 lead. However, the Bandits then answered back with three of their own to tie the game at four.

Brooks then opened the final period with two goals to give them a 6-4 advantage. Josh Polak then scored his second of the night to bring the Saints within one. However, Liam Fitzpatrick fired back with two shorthanded goals to put the Bandits on top 8-5. Late in the frame, Declan Waddick scored his 17th of the season to add another tally for the Saints. With less than a minute left, Fitzpatrick sealed the empty-netter to win the game 9-6 for the Bandits.
