In a high-scoring affair that saw the Saints outshooting the Smoke Eaters, Spruce Grove still fell 7-4 to Trail.
Five minutes into the game, Louis Jonerheim opened the scoring to put the Smoke Eaters up 1-0. However, the Saints responded with goals from Spencer Rheaume, Felix Haibock and Michael Azzarone to take a 3-1 lead.
Early into the middle frame, Gairin Michalski put one past Joseph Quintilio to bring the Smoke Eaters within one. Frederic Deschênes then responded with a snipe coming off of a two-on-one. Then, with two more goals from the Smoke Eaters, the middle frame concluded with a 4-4 tie.
The third period then saw two goals by the Smoke Eaters on the power play and one 5-on-5 to win the game 7-4.
