The Spruce Grove Saints fell 3-1 to the Penticton Vees in a hard-fought matchup. Ben Merrill was the difference-maker for the Vees, opening the scoring in the first period to give his team a 1-0 lead. He added another goal in the second, doubling Penticton’s advantage to 2-0.
The Saints pushed back late in the third period, with Matheson Mason finding the back of the net to cut the deficit to 2-1, giving Spruce Grove a glimmer of hope. Despite generating numerous scoring chances and putting pressure on the Vees, the Saints were unable to find the equalizer. An empty-net goal from Penticton sealed the game at 3-1.
Despite the loss, the Saints showed resilience, creating flurries of offensive opportunities throughout the game but ultimately coming up short on the scoreboard.
