GAME RECAP: Saints Solid Defensive Effort Leads To 4-2 Victory Over Spruce Kings

PHOTO: Aaron Grimaldo

In their first game of 2026, the Spruce Grove Saints showed well defensively and took down the Prince George Spruce Kings by a final score of 4-2.

Marcus Lougheed opened the scoring late in the first period to put the Spruce Kings up 1-0.

The Saints responded with some offensive power in the second period by scoring three goals to take a 3-1 advantage. Declan Waddick scored his eighth of the season on the power play to tie the game at one. It was then Spencer Rheaume who scored a shorthanded goal to put the Saints up 2-1. Tre Peck finished the period by also scoring on the power play to give the Saints a healthy 3-1 lead.

The third period saw all of the action happening within the final two minutes. At 18:32 of the frame, Tai Ushio got one on the power play to bring the Spruce Kings within one. However, that excitement was short-lived as Brandon Funk then put the nail in the coffin by scoring the empty-netter and winning the game 4-2 for the Saints.
