Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced on Thursday the team has acquired forward Ben Buckley (’05) from the Alberni Valley Bulldogs in exchange for future considerations.
Buckley, 20, joins the Saints after his first season in the BC Hockey League last year, suiting up in 25 games with the Alberni Valley Bulldogs where he collected two goals and four points in that span. The Warwick, Rhode Island native also played in 10 playoff games for the Bulldogs but the 5’11”, 167-pound forward has experience playing in Alberta, getting into action with the Calgary Canucks during the 2023-24 campaign before starting last season with the Drayton Valley Thunder in the AJHL.
Buckley has also secured a commitment to play in his post junior hockey days as he is set to attend Dartmouth University.
The Saints begin their new era in Thompson Family Arena and at Heavy Metal Place on Friday night as they host the Brooks Bandits in their inaugural game in their new home. Puck drop is set for 7:00 PM with tickets available for purchase online at tickets.sgsaints.ca.
