NEWS: Kazakhstan Forward Alex Perkin Joins Saints For 2025-26 Season

Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced on Tuesday the team has committed to forward Alex Perkin (’06) for the 2025-26 season.

Perkin, 19, makes his way to Spruce Grove following parts of the past two seasons playing with MHK Barys Astana in Kazakhstan’s top junior league. The 6’0”, 172-pound forward posted five goals and 14 points in 13 games last season there while also playing in Russia’s top junior league, the MHL, with Snezhyne Barsy Astana and suited up in 24 games with them.

The Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan native comes to Canada for the first time with a teammate of his as he played last season with Karim Kazhibekov, who was recently announced as a signing for the Saints this upcoming season.

Adding Perkin brings another layer of offensive talent and workmanlike mentality to the Saints, “Alex caught our eye as a player who can make an impact in all three zones of the ice,” said GM Rob Sklaruk, “He will play a big role in our forward group and will be leaned on in many situations.”

The Saints begins their new season ushering in a new era at the Thompson Family Arena on Friday, September 19th as they host the Brooks Bandits to kick-off the 2025-26 BC Hockey League season.
