Geneal Manager Rob Sklaruk announced Friday the team has committed to forward Michael Azzarone (’06) for the 2025-26 season.
Azzarone, 18, joins the Saints after two seasons of captaining the Elite Hockey Academy 18U AAA team based in Connecticut. The 5’9”, 163-pound forward finished second in team scoring after notching 53 goals and 51 assists for 104 points in just 68 games at the U18 AAA level last season. In 186 career games with the Elite Hockey Academy, Azzarone published 145 goals and 146 assists for 291 points during his tenure there.
The Seymour, Connecticut native also got his first taste of junior hockey last season, getting into a pair of games with the Springfield Jr. Blues of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where he collected two points including his first junior hockey goal on December 14th, 2024 in a victory against the Fairbanks Ice Dogs.
GM Rob Sklaruk believes in Azzarone, the Saints are getting a very skilled player, “Michael’s production at the Elite Hockey Academy pops off the charts,” said the General Manager, “We believe he can translate that into the BCHL and will also bring a good presence in the locker room having been a captain at Elite the last two seasons”
For the first time in his life, the 18-year-old Azzarone will head north to play hockey in Canada, “I’m honoured to be a part of the Spruce Grove Saints,” mentioned the forward, “I am looking forward to playing alongside of talented teammates and working with the great coaching staff. I’m excited to be a part of such a strong organization and help us win a championship.”
Spruce Grove begins their new season ushering in a new era at the Thompson Family Arena on Friday, September 19th as they host the Brooks Bandits to kick-off the 2025-26 BC Hockey League season.
