The Spruce Grove Saints are pleased to announce the leadership group for the 2025-26 season consisting of captain James Richards who will be joined by assistant captains Carson Lloyd, Brandon Funk and Spencer Rheaume.
Richards, 20, is in his second season with the Saints after joining the team after the opening weekend of the season last year. The Port Williams, Nova Scotia native has suited up in 63 career games with Spruce Grove, amassing nine goals and 27 assists for 36 points during that stretch from the blue line.
Lloyd, 20, is also in his second season with the Saints after he was acquired by the team from the Vernon Vipers last season and has played in 65 games while in Spruce Grove. The Toronto, Ontario native has scored eight goals while adding 23 assists for 31 points from the back end.
Funk, just like RIchards and Lloyd, is also in his second season with the Saints and was a mid-season signing from the North American Hockey League (NAHL) last year. A Winnipeg, Manitoba native, the 20-year-old has compiled seven goals and 10 assists for 17 points over the course of 38 games played with the Saints.
Rheaume, 20, joined the Saints in the offseason following a summer trade with the Okotoks Oilers and the Beaverlodge, AB native has compiled four goals and seven points in his 18 games with the Saints while he has suited up in 70 career BCHL games between the Saints and Oilers.
General Manager Rob Sklaruk said it was a team effort in deciding who would lead the team, “Bram (Stephen) and the coaching staff, along with myself and Martin Lachaine (Assistant GM), took our time and did our due diligence in finding the right personalities to represent the team’s leadership,” saints the Saints GM, “In James, Carson, Brandon and Spencer, we feel we have the right personnel to convey the messaging of the coaching staff to the players.”
The Saints and their newly minted leadership group begin a weekend of matchups against the Blackfalds Bulldogs beginning on the road on Friday night at Eagle Builders Centre. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM with the game being broadcasted live on the Saints Radio Network as well as streamed live on FloHockey.
