Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced Thursday the team has signed veteran defender Hunter Friedrich (’06) for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
Friedrich, 19, comes to Spruce Grove after spending parts of the last three seasons with the Chippewa Steel in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) where the 5’11”, 179-pound defender suited up in 71 career games, collecting seven assists in that span. The Chanhassen, Minnesota native had played all of his minor hockey in his home state before moving to Wisconsin to join Chippewa two seasons ago.
Adding a veteran player like Friedrich is something that GM Rob Sklaruk had been looking for to compliment his team’s roster, “Securing depth for our blueline is something we have been on the look out for and Hunter brings a steady veteran presence that will help our team,” mentioned the Saints GM, “He handles the puck well and his strong skating ability will lend well to getting adjusted to the BCHL.”
The Saints return to action with a weekend doubleheader on home ice beginning on Friday with the Vernon Vipers coming to town. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM at Thompson Family Arena with tickets available for purchase online at tickets.sgsaints.ca.
