Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced Wednesday the team has signed defenseman Brodie Kay (’06) for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
Kay, 19, joins the Saints after suiting up in 12 games to begin the season with the Fife Flyers in the Elite Ice Hockey League, the UK’s top professional circuit. The 6’1″, 185-pound defender makes his way to North America after two full seasons in Scotland with the Flyers, getting into a total of 78 career games thus far.
The Edinburgh, Great Britain native has also represented his country on the International stage each of the past three seasons in Division II World Junior Championship action at the U18 and U20 level while last season seeing five assists in five games at the U20 tournament held in Croatia and Serbia.
“Any time you can add a player with professional and international experience like Brody, that is something we jump on,” mentioned Sklaruk, “He is a big body that is very strong in his own zone and is a hard player to play against. We look forward to seeing what Brody can do with the North American style of game.”
Kay is set to join the team this week as the Saints kick-off the first of a two-game weekend beginning on Friday night in Blackfalds against the Bulldogs. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM from Eagle Builders Centre with the game being broadcasted live on the Saints Radio Network as well as streamed online on FloHockey.
Spruce Grove returns home to honour the 1975 Centennial Cup champion Mets with replica jerseys and merchandise available at the Saints Store. Puck drop for Sunday afternoon’s matinee contest is slated for 2:00 PM at Thompson Family Arena with tickets available for purchase online at tickets.sgsaints.ca.
