NEWS: Saints Welcome Local Defenseman Brett Barnes To Fold For 2025-26 Season

Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced on Friday the team has committed to defenseman Brett Barnes (’07) for the 2025-26 season.

Barnes, 18, joins the Saints following his time with the Edmonton Jr. Oilers U18 AAA program, where he skated in a total of 43 games split between last season and the 2023-24 campaign. The 5’10”, 170-pound defender posted six goals while adding 16 assists for 22 points over the course of his time with the Jr. Oilers.

“Brett had a good season last year with the Jr. Oilers and we are looking forward to seeing what he can bring to our roster this season,” explained Sklaruk.

After spending parts of the last pre-season with the Saints, the Edmonton native is looking forward to joining the group on a full-time basis, “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to start my junior hockey career with the Spruce Grove Saints,” said Barnes, “It’s a first-class organization with a strong culture and I’m excited to be a part of a team that values character, hard work development.”

The Saints begins their new season ushering in a new era at the Thompson Family Arena on Friday, September 19th as they host the Brooks Bandits to kick-off the 2025-26 BC Hockey League season.
