Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced Monday the addition of assistant coach Riley Ferster to the team’s coaching staff for the 2024-25 season.
Ferster, 35, joins the Saints after coaching in each of the last two seasons with HC Edmonton in the Junior Prospects Hockey League (JPHL). The Quesnel, BC native worked with the 18U squad during the 2023-24 season after his first season as the assistant coach of the 15U team.
Ferster is no stranger to Junior hockey or the BC Hockey League, having been with the Dauphin Kings of the Manitoba Junior Hockey League as the team’s Skills Coach during the 2019-20 season while suiting up in the BCHL with the Quesnel Millionaires and Langley Chiefs back in his playing days.
“I’m honoured to join the Saints coaching staff for their first full season in the BCHL,” commented Ferster, “The Saints have a rich history of success on the ice and in the community of Spruce Grove. I’m looking forward to working with our management, coaching staff and players to continue the Saints’ tradition of excellence.”
“Riley is an incredible person, with a strong work ethic, who is devoted to honing his craft as a coach,” said Sklaruk, “He will bring positive energy to the group with a keen eye for on ice skill development and tactical play. His accomplishments at HC Edmonton was impressive and could not be ignored. We are thrilled to add a coach of his quality to the Saints bench.”
