Spruce Grove Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk announced on Monday the team has committed to forward Gleb Akimov (’05) for the 2025-26 season.
Akimov, 20, is coming to Spruce Grove following his first season in the United States last year with the Shreveport Mudbugs of the North American Hockey League (NAHL). The 6’2”, 198-pound forward registered 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points in 55 games to finish 6th in team scoring. Akimov previously played two seasons with the Oakville Blades in the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) where he compiled 38 goals and 79 points in 108 games with the Blades.
The 20-year-old brings plenty of junior hockey experience to the Saints line up this season, something in which GM Rob Sklaruk is a big fan of, “Adding Gleb to our group really gives us more veteran presence and someone who has been through the ups and downs in hockey,” said Sklaruk, “Gleb has a strong shot and uses his frame well to win puck battles and we look forward to what he can do as a Saint.”
“I am honoured to join the Spruce Grove Saints organization for the 2025-26 season,” mentioned Akimov of joining the program, “I am ready for the journey ahead and to be competing on a team with such a rich history.”
The Saints begins their new season ushering in a new era at the Thompson Family Arena on Friday, September 19th as they host the Brooks Bandits to kick-off the 2025-26 BC Hockey League season.
